This puzzle features Juno’s very cool laminations that have quickly become a favourite of mine. Board burrs are pretty much Juno’s ‘specialty’ and this one bumps up the move count to a whopping 16!
Here's Juno's Description at Pluredro
“The burr looks somehow a bit odd and unbalanced because of combined different thickness plywood. The thicker pieces have 3-unit thickness and the thinner ones have 2. Thanks to the feature, the burr has a level 16 unique solution that the ordinary 6 board burrs cannot achieve. It can be assembled and disassembled using complex rotational movements and it can also be done only by linear lateral movements. The rotational movements barely give you a shortcut since it involves several combination steps. The linear lateral solution is also tricky and it will be fun to find the narrow path to reach the goal.
As we have done many times, our original plywood is used for the pieces and this time, we chose Koto for the outer layers and New Guinea Walnut for the inner layer. Although the number of our produced puzzles is quite small, we bought three bottles of one-gallon Titebond III this year mainly to be used for our original plywood.
It was time consuming work to mill out the thicker pieces from 18 mm thick plywood. The depth increment of the CNC router was set to 0.3 mm to have a satisfactory cutting result and it required 60 paths to cut a piece. All the sharp edges are beveled and the pieces have a very smooth surface. The project started in early November this year and the puzzle became the last burr puzzle to be released in 2019.
The puzzle is sold assembled. The solution to this puzzle will be supplied upon request by Burr Tools file format.”
