Just received this 4x4 checkered cube today, it’s a very nicely made puzzle by Kevin Holmes likely from the ‘90s. It appears to have been left wrapped in a collection for over 30 years..
Unlike many Coffin designs this one is not interlocking but does feature some rather unique assembly challenges by omitting certain pieces creating a void in the middle of the cube.
Kevin seemed to specialize in cube designs and this one is very nicely crafted using Padauk and Maple. I have reached out to Jacques hoping to gather more details about this cool design.

Peruvian Walnut, Wenge, Tigerwood, Holly, Walnut.
