Rather than blog about one particular puzzle I thought I might write about Alfons. Many of his designs have been crafted by others, however I collect everything he has made and the count currently stands at over 80!
Saul Symonds has a very nice blog explaining how it all started for Alfons.
The following bio is from years ago at Puzzle Place:
“Alfons Eyckmans designs puzzles as a hobby. Many of his designs are published on Puzzle Will Be Played...
He has created over 160 designs of 18-piece burr (i.e. Tiros), most of them being progressive steps in the search of the highest possible number of moves. For the time being, the record is held by the Burrly Sane for Extreme Puzzlers of Jack Krijnen, with 152 moves needed to free the first piece of the puzzle. Alfons Eyckmans' Tiros is second, with 150 moves. Both puzzles are based on the same initial design.”
As of November 2022 Alfons has a whopping 386 designs listed at Ishino Keiichiro’s ‘Puzzle Will Be Played’.
Alfons puzzles are available via his Facebook page.
